UNWLA Fundraiser for the Children of Ukraine

UNWLA Fundraiser for the Children of Ukraine

In June of 2022 CultureVerse donated use of its Gallery Space on Main St. in Ann Arbor, MI for a daylong pop-up art sale to benefit children affected by the war in Ukraine. Hosted by the Michigan chapter of the UNWLA Ukrainian women's organization, the event was a great success. The UNWLA national organization matched the $10,000 raised by the event for a total $20,000 donation to a single orphanage in Ukraine.

Over a hundred artists donated their works to the sale, including sculpture, painting, pottery, and more. Hundreds of visitors poured through the space all day long and enjoyed a series of performers. A Ukrainian bandurist treated the crowd to the sounds of this traditional Ukrainian instrument, once banned in Russia because of its significance to the Ukrainian culture. A youth jazz quartet performed for most of the afternoon, and a particularly touching moment came when a young man played the Ukrainian anthem on solo violin in front of the gallery as crowds on main street listened.

Thank you to all those who supported and/or attended this event!
